Family Therapy

Family therapy provides a supportive and collaborative environment where family members can explore concerns, improve communication, and work towards healthier relationships. Families are complex systems, and difficulties affecting one person can often influence the wellbeing and functioning of the family as a whole.

Families may seek therapy when experiencing persistent conflict, communication difficulties, parenting challenges, separation, grief, illness, significant change, or concerns about a family member’s emotional wellbeing. Therapy can also be helpful when families feel caught in recurring patterns and are unsure how to move forward.

During family therapy, your psychologist will work with family members to understand different perspectives, identify patterns that may be contributing to distress, and support more constructive ways of relating to one another. Sessions provide an opportunity for each person to feel heard while developing a shared understanding of the concerns affecting the family.

The structure of therapy is tailored to each family’s circumstances. Depending on the family’s needs and therapeutic goals, sessions may involve the whole family, selected family members, or a combination of individual and shared appointments.

  • Support children, adolescents, parents, or caregivers through change
  • Clarify roles, expectations, and boundaries
  • Navigate separation, grief, illness, or major life transitions
  • Build collaborative approaches to problem-solving
  • Create a more supportive and connected family environment
